The National Law Journal has named Loeb & Loeb Partner Adam G. Kelly among Chicago’s 40 Under 40 in a special report profiling the city’s rising stars in the legal industry. Adam Kelly practices intellectual property law including patent and trademark counselling, litigation, and prosecution. Mr. Kelly’s experience in the United States and abroad is extensive, including conducting due diligence, providing strategic counseling, procuring new technologies, negotiating licenses, and enforcing or defending against infringement actions in various jurisdictions throughout the world. He represents clients in the agricultural science, biotechnology, chemical, and pharmaceutical arts, as well as in the electronic arts involving network-based computer systems, gaming, and children’s toys. Adam has successfully represented both defendants and plaintiffs in a wide variety of patent infringement cases in both federal district and appellate courts, and represented clients in prosecution, opposition, and reexamination proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Washington, D.C. and the European Patent Office in the Hague, Netherlands.
ANDREA HENCE EVANS, Patent Attorney
Andrea Hence Evans, Esq. launched The Law Firm of Andrea Hence Evans, LLC, after having worked at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for 5 years as both a patent examiner and a trademark examining attorney after graduating from law school. While working as a Trademark Examining Attorney, she examined all types of trademarks including design marks, word marks, Madrid applications, and configuration trademark applications to determine eligibility for registration on the Principal or Supplemental Register. Prior to working as a Trademark Examining Attorney, Attorney Evans was a Patent Examiner at USPTO. As a Patent Examiner, she examined patent applications in the electrical and mechanical engineering areas featuring printing, keyboards and time measuring devices. Andrea is a graduate of The George Washington Law School in Washington, DC., and Spelman College and Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in Atlanta, Georgia, where she obtained a Bachelors of Science in mathematics and a Bachelors of Civil Engineering, respectively. She is a member of the Texas bar and the United States Supreme Court bar and a registered Patent Attorney. LAURA R. WANEK, Patent Attorney
Laura R. Wanek is a partner with Greer Burns & Crain, Ltd., a boutique intellectual property firm with offices in Chicago and San Diego. Laura counsels clients in a wide range of intellectual property issues ranging from utility patents to design patents to trademarks. From creation to enforcement, Laura handles the global trademark operations of several well-known footwear and apparel brands. Laura also handles their design patent portfolios, making her well-versed in the intersection of trademark and design patent law. Laura received a Bachelor of Science in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a J.D. from DePaul University. Laura has been recognized in Chicago Lawyers Magazine for her work in the field of intellectual property and has been honored as a “Rising Star” by the Illinois Super Lawyers.
OLIVIA T. LUK, Patent Attorney
Olivia T. Luk is a shareholder at Niro, Haller & Niro in Chicago. From 2000-2005, Olivia was a patent examiner for the United States Patent and Trademark Office in the area of semiconductor processing for Tech Center 2800. She practiced patent prosecution at a law firm
in the Washington, DC area before moving to Chicago in 2006 to practice patent litigation. Currently, Olivia proudly represents small companies and sole inventors in federal and state intellectual property litigations across the country. In 2014 and 2015, Olivia was recognized by Illinois Super Lawyers as a Super Lawyer in Intellectual Property Litigation. Prior to that, she was recognized as a “Rising Star” in Intellectual Property Litigation each year from 2009 through 2013. In 2014, Olivia was named to the “40 under Forty Top Lawyers in Illinois” by the Law
Bulletin. She was awarded the American Inns of Court Sandra Day O’Connor Award for Professional Service in 2011. Olivia has also served the local Chicago school community by mentoring through PEAK, teaching IP Law at Whitney Young High School through StreetLaw, and reading to pupils at a Southside elementary school.
DAVE GOSSE, Patent Attorney
David A. Gosse is a patent attorney and litigator at Fitch, Even, Tabin & Flannery LLP, a midsized national law firm dedicated solely to the practice of intellectual property law. Dave has regularly been an integral member of litigation teams that have obtained successful results for clients at trial or through settlement. Dave’s litigation practice encompasses all phases from case evaluation through trial. In addition, he has experience with post-issuance proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, in which he has defended patents against invalidity challenges arising from litigation. Trained as a mechanical engineer, Dave worked with an engineering and software development firm for five years prior to attending law school.
